Philippians 4 vs 6: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God. (NKJV)
In this social media driven age, where people worry about so many things; WORRY has been a way of life and an obstacle to moving forward. We worry about our public image; do we look fit, are we healthy, what people think about us, do we have enough money and so on. Worrying about other people's acceptance of us is one of the greatest strongholds to overcome. In this modern age, many people are prone to worry, and the tragedy is that there is no limit to the possibilities to worry about.
One of the main strongholds that paralyzes Christians in this modern era is the emotional stronghold of WORRY. One can say that Life is full of challenges. These challenges at times transform itself to strongholds. Strongholds are barriers that keep us hostage and prevent us from WHOLEHEARTEDLY trusting God and experiencing the abundant life He has promised. Worry is originated from the Greek word “Merimna” meaning divided mind. A DIVIDED mind cannot WHOLLY serve and trust God. It also means choked or strangled. Worry strangles you from abundant life, freedom, peace, joy of the living God and leaves you frustrated.
Worrying can be sin as it involves doubting the power, might & awesomeness of God. If you worry a lot, you are not putting God first. Matthew 6:24 admonishes us that no one can serve two masters. If money, job, career acts as a master one will find him or herself primarily worrying about those material things and not serving God. Jesus asked an intriguing question in Matthew 6:27, “Can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” The obvious answer is NO. Hence, since worry do no good, we must strive to put God first in all situations. The problem with worry is that we often seek the wrong things and priorities. The solution to the crisis of worry is given in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you”.
Jesus said “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; do they not sow or reap or store away in barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:25-26) If our father feed birds that are of no eternal value to Him, how much more will He take care of us. He valued us so much that He made us in HIS image and sent His only begotten Son to die for our sins and purchase our salvation and redemption with His blood.
Action: Instead of telling God how big your problem is, tell your problems how MIGHTY, GIGANTIC, HUGE, GREAT, MAGNIFICIENT your GOD is.
Prayer
Dear Father, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, to change the things that I can and the wisdom to know the difference. Help me to live in the present rather than worry about the future. Amen. Nelson McEwen.
